Gorkana's Award-Winning PR Panel

Gorkana held an ‘awards love-in’ on Friday February 14 to get under the skin of what makes an award-winning PR campaign.

Speakers

Nik Done

Nik Done

Co-founder of Unity

Nik cut her teeth in the world of PR at global agency Ketchum before moving to a small and now defunct agency called Larkspur which was quickly subsumed into top 10 UK agency Band & Brown where Nik worked for five years. It was at Band & Brown that Nik met Gerry. They had a vision for doing things differently and took the leap in 2005, setting up Unity together when Nik was just 29.

Eight years on Unity has just been named 'Best Consumer PR Agency in the World' at the Global Sabre Awards, where it also picked up 'Best Campaign in the World' and 'Most Creative PR Agency in the World'. It has topped the awards league table of the PR Week Awards for 3 years running, and swept the board at the recent PRCA Awards, taking five gongs including Campaign of the Year. Unity clients include M&S, Netmums, Lucozade, Ribena, Hyundai, Ben & Jerry's, Cheestrings, Baileys and the British Government.

In 2011 Nik was named one of the Sunday Times 35 under 35 – and was featured on the front page of the business section. And Management Today featured her in a recent exhibition of business leaders – her portrait sat between those of Sir Terry Leahy and Sir Alan Sugar.

Emily Morgan

Emily Morgan

Managing Director of Life at The Red Consultancy

Widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading and most creative PR agencies, Red responded to the increasing need for specialism in consumer PR by offering two sharply contrasting units: Life and Play. As MD of Life (a title which her husband finds vastly amusing) Emily focuses on consumer health and well-being, beauty, parenting, household, public sector, food and nutrition.

During her time at Red Emily has driven high-impact campaigns for Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, GSK, Pfizer and Nestle as well as creating award winning behavioural-change campaigns for the likes of the Department of Health and NHS Blood & Transplant.

Emily spent a lot of time writing award entries for NHS Blood and Transplant last year. Followed by a lot of time drinking wine to celebrate wins for those campaigns at award ceremonies. Her unwavering commitment to ensuring Red’s blood donation campaigns remain successful includes timing her own blood donations with campaign peaks. Every pint helps!
